300

As C and I have both been affected by cancer by the loss of parents - when it touches someone close to us we want to jump in to help however and wherever we can. Recently, Mike Fechner (http://www.mikefechner.com/) was diagnosed with lung cancer. Mike has poured into me over the years, been a mentor/spiritual father in faith to me. God really has used him to spur me on in my faith and he has shown me how to pray and love others.

Mike asked me to workout with him to be a better steward of his temple. I love to workout and this has been a great opportunity for me to pour love and encouragement on him. I have a heart for men going through cancer as I walked with my dad through that tough season of his life. God has allowed me to speak hope and faith to both my father and now Mike.

Through a conviction on C's heart, I found out about another opportunity to help Mike, who found HIS Bridgebuilders. HISBB is a ministry that serves the poor in South Dallas. I'll let you read about the opportunity in Mike's own words with this section from his blog:

I have been taken care of by the best medical team, equipment and facilities available. My heart however is extremely burdened by the thousands we serve in the HIS Bridgebuilders optical and dental clinics. These clinics allow us to share the gospel, give the best medical care available to the poor, and train residents from inner-city communities to work in our clinics as well as for employers in the optical and dental industry after completing our courses. Many of the trainees become a positive role model of someone who has experienced the life changing power of Jesus Christ from the streets to serving, from death to life, from drugs to discipling others. There is joy in our clinics! We are in the process of reopening our dental clinic and are prayerful that God will raise up a full-time dentist who is called to make disciples through medical missions. I share this because HIS BridgeBuilders is in great financial need.

Today while I was praying for our ministry, which has been hit hard by the economy and by my battle with cancer, the Lord reminded me of Gideon and his 300 men. These men were prepared to battle and trust God with Gideon for a great victory against unbelievable odds. I would ask you to fervently pray about being one of our 300 solidiers to pray for miraculouse healing and to give $100/month to HIS Bridgebuilders to help us fight the battle to reclaim our cities for Christ. If the Lord leads you to be one of the BridgeBuilders 300, please respond to this blog and someone will contact you.

Dear friends. I extend this 300 opportunity to you because I know you love Mike too and you care about things I care about. God uses him to be an advocate for the poor and biblically that's so powerful and needed...My hope is that we can help him forget about raising money for a year and focus on fighting the stupid cancer and resting/taking care of himself. Let's carry his burdens for him during this hard time.

We've joined the 300 - will you?

-D.
