Enough

by: Duffy

Hebrews 13:5, "Keep your life free from the love of money, and be content with what you have."

Tonight I had the opportunity to personally meet Dr. Wes Stafford who is the President and CEO of Compassion International. He said a very profound thing and I thought I would share it... "The opposite of poverty isn't wealth, the opposite of poverty and wealth is enough."

This struck a chord with me. For us this really deals with this issue of moderation and contentment. While we in North America live like Kings many in this world do not. The devil's main goal is to keep us away from God. In 3/4 of the world he uses poverty. In the US and other wealth countries he uses excess. To the poor they are lead to believe that God doesn't care about me. To us rich, we don't really need God. Both methods end in the same result of separation from God.
I'm prone to want way more than I need, that's one of my internal struggles is to want to achieve and gain material things, the next best new thing. The ultimate goal stated in the verse is contentment with what you have. True wealth is not having what you want, but wanting what you have. I really wish I was more content in God and him being my sufficiency than looking to other things to fulfill me. I wish I would more freely give what I have that is more than enough to those without to help them have enough.
