After the "October baby" and the "November baby" we had a close call a week ago for a "December baby".
Last Friday, was working an event at a local church and met a foster Mom for a local adoption agency. She had a beautiful 6 day old baby girl named "Ava" with her. I fell in love at first sight and couldn't take my eyes off her. The foster Mom mentioned that they hadn't found a family for little Ava yet. I called Duffy and asked him if he thought it was okay to call the caseworker that I knew at the agency. He said it sounded like a fine idea. The caseworker said that she actually had just emailed a few other agencies because the birthmom wanted a young couple with no kids...and they didn't have any. She said she'd be happy to present us on Monday. If we were picked, we could take little Ava home on December 19th (once a few legal things were cleared up).
What an agonizing weekend! I felt confidant that through this miraculous set of events, God was bringing us our daughter. My heart bottomed out when we were told on Monday that she didn't pick us, and instead went with one of the couples from the agency that already had children.
It's been harder to rebound from this one, probably because I saw her and touched her. You'd think that this process would be getting easier for us and we'd be becoming immune to the disappointment and uncertainty in the process, but somehow it's just getting harder.
To those sweet souls that read our blog - I'm sorry that so many lately have been "downers." I can't wait to report good and exciting news instead!
