Sam the Squirrel

Email sent out by Duffy:

My lovely bride captured, I mean rescued, a fallen squirrel today. She, as you know her, was so proud of her new child that she went around the church showing him off to the discuss and outrage of our fellow employees. Not everyone shared in our great excitement or concern for our furry little friend with disease and parasites. Charis did have a failed attempt at climbing the tree with Sam in her coat pocket. Well I really did like the little guy so I got him a warm water bottle to keep him warm in little box. The plan was to lure his dead-beat mother to the box to take him back, but she never came back for him. We eventually looked up a rehabber for the little guy and took him to safety today. I named him Sam. Sam the Squirrel.. I’m good at naming pets. It’s my contribution. Mr. Kitty and Sam the Squirrel. All in all we made a difference for better planet today!

The facilities guy, Rex, sent out this email to the entire staff:
Our own Charis Johnson (Communications Ministry) rescued a baby squirrel today that had fallen from its nest out in front of the Hunt Building. Saving souls and squirrels…that’s how we role here at HPPC.

To which our senior pastor, Ron Scates, replied:
In seminary I actually trained a squirrel on campus to come when I called him…..just like a dog.He would ride around on my shoulder.Anne will verify this.I’m proud of you,Charis.Did you get him to pray the prayer? As your reward I’m arranging a Tarheel victory tonight (ask Duffy what a Tarheel is).

To which Duffy replied:
Charis and I helped convert him and sent him out as a Urban missionary in Oak Cliff, his new home w/ 20 other fallen squirrels. We are arranging HPPC work day trips to help him in his new Urban mission field this summer. Thanks for arrangement of the “Beat Down in Motown.” Go Heels!!!

All-in-all, baby squirrel Sam was a joy to hold and show off. I'm glad the little guy has a safe home playing with 20 other baby squirrels. He did give me fleas though. :(
