Facing The Impossible... Made Possible

by: Duffy

Luke 1:35 The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called[a] the Son of God. 36Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. 37For nothing is impossible with God."
38"I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said." Then the angel left her.

Confused. Humble. Favored. Chosen. Trust. Believer. Poor. Alone. Child. Impossible. Servant. Slandered. Rediculed. Blessed. All words that describe Mary circumstances.

Reading through this story of Christ’s birth I’m challenged by the incredible faith of a Mary. She was very young (14-17), promised to Joseph, told by an angel that she was going to give birth to Savior of the world, became pregnant, had to tell family and Joseph this truly unbelievable story. She should have been stoned in the streets. Her cousin had a child, John the Baptist, at an old age because they believed in a God whom nothing was impossible!

What does this look like for us? Maybe your boss is tough, a marriage is rough, career isn’t on pace, or family relationships are not embraced, you don’t have what you desire, and it seems your life’s burning up in fire. You can’t see how this can end really well. Your accusers are facing you, your too young, not wealthy or connected, the proverbial impossible wall is before you, your closest friends are disappointed in you, the odds aren’t in your favor, the game is ending and your counted out. BUT God is a God who can redeem and do the impossible.

Do you believe God can bless you in spite of what impossible task or circumstances you face? Mary did despite her tough conditions. In the Magnificat that follows this text Mary states that all generations will call her blessed!! Here is a young lady who is clearly viewed poorly by others that strongly places her hope and faith in God. Her faith is believing that Emmanuel will bring glory to the situation through her trust and obedience. The Mighty One can do great things in and through you! A healing of the body, a restored relationship, a new business deal. We are his servants, as He loves us and uses us in the settings he has placed us in let His will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. Through you. Through me. Faith, in a God for which nothing is impossible!
