We got the call!

Last night we got our first foster-placement call...and I missed it! The battery on my phone died, so I plugged it in while we went to dinner. When we got home, I had a missed call and voicemail from our Foster Care Caseworker saying that she needed a home for several children. I was so excited I couldn't hardly dial the number to call her back. I raced in the living and was laughing, screeching, and jumping up and down as I tried to communicate to Duffy what was happening. He responded like a typical man..."soooo...call her back already."

Right! I called her back and she said that they had already placed all the kiddos. There were 2 seperate three-year olds and sibling group of eight kids that they had divided up amongst several homes. I thanked her for thinking of us and she told me to keep my phone close by as she'd be oncall this weekend and could give us another call at any time. I was still so excited! We'd only been eligible for 6 days and we'd already received our first call! Total confirmation that this is where the Lord was leading us!

Then I realized....we don't have everything we need for a 3 year old! We need toys, sippy cups, toddler rails for the bed, snacks, diapers....the list kept going in my head as I frantically looked at Duffy and said, "We have to go to Walmart RIGHT NOW!"

We jumped in the car and headed off to buy some essentials to keep in stock "just in case". All the excitement got me so wound up that I started feeling sick to my stomach, but I was so worked up I couldn't sleep either! It's like everyday is Christmas Eve and the next day could be the day that our lives completely change.

I've got my map of garage sales to hit up tomorrow to stock up on more baby stuff and tonight we're going to go to work on the nursery. Hopefully - the next time I won't miss the call and this time - we'll be ready and waiting!
