Many thanks to my sweet friend Lori for the cute Aggie tutu that Julah is wearing in this week's picture! We LOVE it!
This week my friend, Kristen Reed Hathaway, delivered her son, Shai Nelson Hathaway on April 4th at 4pm. Weighing in at 2lbs 10oz and 16.5 inches long, he was with them for a beautiful 17 minutes before he went on his his heavenly home. We praise God for his life and creation.
On Friday, I attended the funeral service in Killeen with my friend, Michelle, while Julah spent the day with her Grandee, Great Aunt Shirla, and Great Aunt Susan. They went to Fairfield for lunch and Julah did great in the car and at the restaurant. When they got home, she let loose and threw a “ring-tail fit” as Grandee described it. She also threw up all over my Dad…which was the final confirmation I needed that her new formula wasn’t working.
Michelle is also a dietician for ECI (Early Childhood Intervention), so I took a few formulas for her to look at and we formed a plan. The Gerber Goodstart had taken care of the throwing up and constipation, but Julah was still visually in pain when she was awake. We added rice cereal, but it didn’t ease her discomfort. So…thinking it was acid reflux we switched to Enfamil A.R. - which made her thrown up HUGE chunks of curdled formula. So…thinking it was lactose intolerance we switched to HEB brand Low Lactose Sensitive. Immediately, and we could immediately tell a difference. It appears she is sensitive to Casein, has some Acid Reflux problems, and is sensitive to Lactose. The answer so far: the Whey based “HEB Low Lactose formula” (which I can only buy in Waco), with a bit of rice cereal added to it for the Acid Reflux. So far the only problem is that she seems a bit constipated, but she doesn’t act like she’s in pain. Praise the Lord! I have my happy baby back!
On Saturday, we went out to the Ranch and got to see Belle’s new calf…so cute! This was Julah’s first time out and it was so hot we had to strip her down to her diaper. Grumps showed her how to feed the Longhorns.
On Sunday, Julah made her first trip to church. We went to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church to see Grumps preach on Romans 6-8. We sat on the back row and she slept through the whole sermon...she must be a Baptist.
How’s Mom Doing? Sleep-Deprivation is a funny thing. At this point, when I can sleep for 3 hours, I feel like I’ve slept for days. When I do fall asleep, it’s very restless and lately I’ve been doing some more crazy stuff. Once, I ran to the kitchen and started searching through all of the cabinets - convinced I’d put the baby in one of them. One night I woke up and frantically ripped all the pillow cases off the pillows, convinced that Julah was wrapped up in one and choking to death…she was sound asleep in her basinet less than 2 feet away from the bed. Last week, I abruptly pushed Duffy off the bed because I was certain that he had rolled over on the baby…after a startled awakening, he kindly reminded me that she was in the nursery in her crib.
Chloe (dog) and Aspen (cat) are very fond of "their" new baby. This picture wasn't posed at all, they just love to cuddle:
How's Dad doing? Daddy is very tired. He helps during the nighttime feedings and putting Julah to bed.
When the Texas A&M Lady Aggies played for the National Championship, Julah was ready to go in her spiffy Aggie gear:
